Perioperative statin use in cardiac surgery

A meta-analysis has demonstrated that perioperative statin use is associated with a decrease in atrial fibrillation, all cause mortality and stroke following cardiac surgery. Almost all of these patients should already be on statins but an alarming number are not. Is this an area where hospitalists can help?
